Thursday night we got a message from Nav’s uncle Sean saying Ursa Major was using his Bee Wild Honey for their cocktail special. You might remember Sean’s honey from my soft pretzel bites recipe, and Ursa Major from my post about the distillery here. We met up with Sean, BJ and Nic for a round. The Distillery was already getting busy when we arrived, and there were lots of favorites on the Menu. But, we were there for the special!
The Bee’s Knees is a light, flavorful drink made with Ursa Major’s Summer Harvest Gin and local Alaskan Honey, and a little lemon juice.
I’m a big fan of Gin, and Ursa Major does it right!
From their website:
“A traditional gin that is well balanced, with a long citrusy finish. It’s made from the same local barley as our vodka, with the addition of select botanicals such as Juniper, Coriander, Iris Root, Mace, Cardamom and fresh Rhubarb grown on the distillery property. In 2014 Summer Harvest Gin was awarded a bronze medal in the American Craft Spirits Association first annual tasting.”
Drinks aside, the tasting room is a great place to catch up with family, and make new friends.
Rob brought out sample “Bee Sting” for us to try too. This one had a smidge of Green Siren Absinthe from Port Chilkoot Distillery in Haines, Alaska. After passing the Bee String around, it was decided that a round of Bee Stings was needed (thanks Nic!);Expertly shaken.
Now for the recipe; of course using local Alaskan ingredients make it all the better. For the Bee Sting, simply add a splash of the Absinthe. If you have a chance to make it out to Ursa Major in Ester this week, ask for the special! You can pick up their fine spirits too and make these bad boy’s at home. You can find Bee Wild Honey on Facebook, or give them a call at 907-347-0449.
